Dr. Valeriu Crudu is an Associate Professor in Medical Microbiology; Head of the National TB Reference Laboratory, and Head of the Microbiology & Morphology Laboratory of the Institute of Phthisiopneumology from Chisinau, Moldova. His research activities started in 1990 after finishing a PhD in Medical Microbiology at the Academy of Sciences “I.Secenov” in Moscow, Russia. The main domains of activities of Dr. Crudu are scientific research in the field of tuberculosis control, microbiological diagnosis of infectious diseases, and drug resistance. He has 35 years of experience in laboratory assessment, network and reference functions.
During this period Dr. Crudu implemented over 50 international and local projects. He is authored or coauthored more than 300 publications, scientific reports, and training materials in national and international journals and forums, and he is a supervisor for junior researchers and doctoral students. He is also a member of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, member of the European Respiratory Society, and member of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease.

Dr. Valeriu Crudu participated in the implementation of the National TB Program in Moldova, where he was responsible for Infection Control and Surveillance of drug resistance tuberculosis; contributed to the reorganization of the structure of microbiological services; and unified TB surveillance, and implemented WHO standards and quality control activities in all laboratories from Moldova. He is currently the Principal Investigator in the FEND DR Protocol in Moldova.
